We have a wealth of resources to support this endeavor, including a Mentorship Program Toolkit and interdisciplinary peer mentor, postdoctoral, and faculty mentorship best practices training.

Peer Mentor Training - Certificate & Badge

Advanced graduate students can learn to be effective mentors through a day-long training program delivered by GSMN staff via the Power of the Peers Network Conference. Training topics include mentoring best practices, understanding the role of the mentor, conducting successful mentoring sessions, active listening and responding, previous mentor panel, and professional ethics of peer mentoring, among others. About CIMER

The UCR Graduate Division and GSMN have partnered with CIMER to implement evidence-based, interactive mentor training curricula that engage mentors of all career stages in collective problem-solving and connect them with resources to optimize their mentoring practices. Postdoc scholars and faculty can explore high-impact, evidence-based mentorship practices through a four-module training program delivered by GSMN staff and Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) facilitators. The curricula series addresses the new NIGMS guidelines regarding the preparation of mentors involved in training grants. The themes and concepts covered in the curricula include aligning expectations, articulating your mentoring philosophy and plan, assessing mentee understanding, cultivating ethical behavior, fostering independence, maintaining effective communication, promoting professional development, and reflecting on diversity & establishing a practice of inclusion.
